| About Green Turtle Cay and Things to do While You Are Here
Green Turtle Cay is known for it's natural beauty and simple pleasures. The clear blue Bahamian waters offer spectacular diving, snorkeling and just plain swimming. The beaches on Green Turtle vary from the rocky coral on some of the ocean beaches to the flat half moon beaches of Coco Bay, that are just perfect for a long beach walk. There are many areas where you can snorkel right off the beach or your boat, so bring your equipment if you have it. There are marked reef buoys right off of Green Turtle (maps are readily available), so you can tie your boat up to the reef buoy, and jump in to swim among some of the most incredible shallow water reefs with all sorts of amazing fish right there in front of you. Diving & snorkel trips (and equipment rental) may be available through Brendals' Dive shop. The fish are everywhere and the fishing is wonderful, bone-fishing, reef fishing, deep-sea fishing. There are a number of guides for what ever you prefer whether it be serious fishing or a fun day out on the water. For those of you looking for some fun with your fish, Lincoln Jones does a great all day fishing & snorkeling trip that winds up on a remote beach with a pitcher of Goombay's and Lincoln grilling up your catch for lunch. (I would suggest bringing sunblock & a bottle of water). To get around you may want to rent a golf cart, bikes or a boat, and of course walking. Coco Bay beach is steps away, the ocean beach is a short walk. The Green Turtle Club with a restaurant, bar and small marina shop is about 1/4 of a mile. The charming town of New Plymouth is about 3 miles from the Louie's Seaside Villas and has a few little shops and restaurants. New Plymouth was settled by British loyalists after the American Revolution, and the bright colored cottages have a feel that is part Caribbean and part New England. The Art Gallery, Statue park and churches give you sense of the culture of the island. The warm greetings from everyone as you stroll through the streets are a part of the Abaco way of life.
Restaurants The Green Turtle Club usually has music a couple of times a week, and the local band, the Gully Roosters, usually draws a big crowd on Wed evenings. Click here to listen. Pineapples, on the harbor on Black Sound, & the Jolly Roger, at the Bluff House on White Sound, offer a more casual menu and a dock side setting with a pool. McIntosh's, Laura's Kitchen and Harvey's in town are more casual restaurants, informal settings with great local fish & chicken with peas & rice. The Wrecking Tree & Sundowners, also in town, are good for a casual bite to eat and a cold one. Sundowners may have a lively crowd in the evening, & music on Friday evenings. Miss Emily's Blue Bee Bar, across from the basketball court is the place to stop for a Goombay Smash in the afternoon. The Rooster's Rest on the top of the hill is home to the Gully Rooster's on most Saturday nights.
